Woolong Panda Volunteers at Bifengxia Panda Base

Many visitors worry about the situtation of the Panda which stayed at Woolong Panda Nature Reserve after 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake. Acturally, all of the Woolong captured Pandas got their new home,Yaan Bifengxia Panda Protection and Research Center. In order to give the panda fans an opportunity to have a close touch with the pandas, Bifengxia Panda Center launches a Panda Volunteers Project. Visitors can stay in the center as long as you want to be a Panda volunteer. You can take care of the pandas such as cleaning the panda villa, feeding them, checking their body temperature etc. By this way, you will have a deep understanding of the Panda's life.
This is an itinerary for the visitor's reference, you can stay at Bifengxia panda center as long as you like.
Day 1: Chengdu Arrival
Arrive in Chengdu either by train or flight, your tour guide and driver will meet you there, then drive you to the hotel you are going to stay in Chengdu. Overnight: Chengdu.
Day 2: Chengdu-Ya'an-Bifengxia Panda Base
After your breakfast in the hotel, we will drive to Bifengxia through Chengya Experess way. It takes about 2 hours and a half to arrive there, then, apply for the necessary permit and sign the agreement to be a panda volunteer. Get your unifrom, Gloves etc. Overnight: Bifengxia Reception center or Xiaoxitian in the valley.
Day 3: Panda volunteer activity
08:30 Clean the panda's dormitory,.
10:00 Put the fresh bamboo into the enclosures for the pandas' breakfast.
11:00 Watch the pandas' activity and record it.
14:30 Feed the animals with bamboo bread, apples and carrots. then free the pandas in the enclosure and watch their activity.
16:30 Feed pandas again.
17:30 End the job.

Day 6: Bifengxia-Ya'an-Chengdu
Return your uniforms,gloves, then get the volunteer certificate issued by China Panda Protection and Research Center. Drive back to Chengdu, end your impressive panda volunteer tour.

Notes
1.Transportation: Your hotel(Xiaoxitian Hotel) is just walking distance in the Panda base, which is 16 km from Ya'an City and 150 km from Chengdu.2.Shops:Some small grocery stores are in and around the Panda base. The volunteers can eat in a bar/common room opposite the hotel. Volunteers can come here to socialize, have a drink, read a book or even watch TV. The bar is closed from December to February.
3. Money issues: There is no ATM in the Panda Base. But many banks and several ATM machines in Ya'an city and Chengdu city. Travellers cheques are becoming obsolete all over the world and they are very hard to get changed in China. Bring some local currency or just use debit/credit cards to withdraw money. The vast majority of time you cannot use a card to pay for transactions on the spot.
4.Internet & phones: There is free internet in the Panda base Office during the working time (8:30am - 4:30pm). There are also many internet cafes in Ya'an city (2 yuan per hour). You can use your own phone to ring home or use Skype.
5.Health: There is a clinic at the Panda Base and several good hospitals in Ya'an and Chengdu city.
